Lois's Obituary
Lois Pearl Gibson, 86, of Lacota, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Meadow Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Bloomingdale. She was born January 28, 1931 to Albert and Barbara (Darris) Newell in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Lois married Grover Gibson on August 25, 1947 in South Haven, Michigan. She worked at Sunny Brook Resort, Michigan Fruit Canners in both Fennville and South Haven, and Duwell in South Haven. She also worked at D & L Sales and the Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in South Haven. Lois loved hosting a southern family breakfast twice a year. She enjoyed shopping and never passed up on a day at the mall. Lois also enjoyed picking blueberries, quilting, sewing, collecting dolls, and taking road trips with friends and family.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by seven brothers, two sisters, and grandson – Timothy Michael Chumley.
Lois is survived by her husband of 70 years – Grover Gibson, children – Robin (Jeff Barnes) Gibson of Grand Junction, Butch (Kay) Gibson of South Haven, Mary (Dennis) Brown of Hempsted, Texas, siblings – Lee Newell of Florida, Ned Newell and Betty Lute both of Arkansas, grandchildren - Tina Chumley, Barbara (John) Dewveall, Patrick Warren, Joseph (Becky) Warren, Araya Stillson, great-grandchildren - Nathan, Eric, and Betsy Empson, Cynthia Warren, Kennedy and Kody Stillson, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow visitation at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Mr. Mitch Gibson officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lois’ memory to Great Lakes Caring Hospice, 6120 Stadium Drive #100, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009. Lois will be laid to rest at Chambers Cemetery in Geneva Township.
