Leslie's Obituary

Leslie Grays, was born on August 7, 1933 to Oscar and Cora (Alice) Grays in Gilmore Arkansas.  He was the 2nd of 13 children.   He was a faithful member of Blue Star Church of God Christ in South Haven where he became a Deacon in 2003.  He married his devoted wife Althea Gray in 1978 in South Haven, MI.  Leslie worked for National Motors for 27 years, and later for the Watervliet Paper Mill for five years.  He later worked as a transportation driver for DHS from which he retired with over 20 years of service.  He enjoyed bowling and softball in his younger years playing for the Local Union #90 team.  Leslie was an avid bowler and was awarded several trophies and awards while doing so.  One of his favorite pastimes with his wife was watching the New York Yankees defeat the Detroit tigers.  However, what he enjoyed most was watching his children and grandchildren play baseball and other sports.  With his wife and children at his bedside, on Thursday August 16, 2018, at the age 85, Leslie Gray went home to be with the Lord.  

He is preceded in death along with his parents by two sons – Lester and Duncan Grays, sisters – Maxine Alexander and Juanita Hinton brothers – Oscar and Ivory Grays - and grandchildren Termaine Cunningham and Harmonie Reign Grays.

Leslie leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 40 years – Althea Grays of South Haven, MI, children – Vanessa Willis of Tucson, AZ, Mary (Ricky) Norwood of Benton Harbor, MI, Leslie Grays, Jr. of Grand Rapids, MI, Cynthia (Charles) Watson of Madison, AL, Allen Grays of Grand Rapids, MI, and Chris Grays of Grand Rapids, MI, siblings – Millie Mae Hodges of Arkansas, Mary Della Williams of Memphis, TN,  Geneva Allen of Joliet, IL, Margaret Bruno of Oklahoma City, OK, Jeannette(N.T.) Genous Sr. of Memphis, TN, Terri (Chester) Williams of Gilmore AK, Ronnie (Ella) Grays of Calumet City, IL, and Clay Grays of Memphis, TN.  Host of grandchildren, great grandchildren family and friends.

Wake will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow wake at 2:00 PM with Reverend Aaron Cobb officiating at the funeral home.

The family would like to take this opportunity to say thank you and express their appreciation to all the friends family and loved ones who have supported us.  Thanks for your prayers and your kind words of encouragement during this time of bereavement.
