James "Jim"'s Obituary
James “Jim” Byron Ward, 66, of South Haven, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 30, 2018 at home. He was born April 18, 1952 to Byron Ward Sr. and Elizabeth (Maans) Ward in South Haven and later graduated from South Haven High School with the Class of 1970. He married his better half Connie Haygood on May 15, 1976 in South Haven.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Connie Ward of South Haven; children, Jamie (Mike) Gross and Amy (Daniel) Benfield both of St. Joseph, Michigan; granddaughters Kennedy and Reagan Gross; brother, Byron (Kathleen) Ward of Hamilton, Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was known by all as a tireless worker and retired as Maintenance Superintendent at Louis Padnos Iron and Metal. He loved to golf, fish, tinker, was the “resident gadget guy” and enjoyed traveling with his family. He especially enjoyed being “papa” to his sweet little granddaughters, they were the most recent joy in his life.
Jim was the rock for his entire family and a friend to many, he will be dearly missed by all!
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 5, 2018 at LifeBridge Church with Pastor Milan Bittenbender officiating. Contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to The Gross Children College Fund via Filbrandt Funeral Home or LifeBridge Church, 10420 M140 Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
