Wanda's Obituary
Wanda Ann Nelson, 87, of Bangor, passed away peacefully at Bronson Hospital on May 2, 2019, surrounded by her family.
Wanda was born September 14, 1931 to Fred and Zelka (Lafler) Folk. She married the love of her life, Floyd A. Nelson on November 11, 1950. They celebrated 67 years together prior to his passing.
Wanda enjoyed being a homemaker, but did many other things in her life. She learned to play piano and organ at a young age and went on to teach and play for many occasions, including being the organist and choir director for the Simpson United Methodist Church for many years.
Wanda loved to knit and everyone in her family had a sweater or afghan made with love by her.
She loved taking walks with Floyd and one of their many Pekingese. After Floyd’s retirement they started a small business making wooden yard ornaments (windmills, light houses, and fishing boys). Some of which you can still see in yards in the area.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Floyd Nelson and son Walter John Nelson.
She is survived by her children, William (Gale) of Cedar Springs, Brian (Sally) of Holland, Barbara (Terry) Johnson of Bangor, Kathleen (Jesse) Aquillon of Galesburg, 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Arlington Hill Cemetery in Bangor with Pastor David L. Markel officiating. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Grace Way at Countryside Nursing Home in South Haven for all of their compassionate care over the last few months.
