Alan's Obituary

Alan Bowman Poczik, 72, of New Buffalo, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

The family will be gathering to celebrate Alan’s life at 11am, Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Converge Community Church, 601 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Service Dogs of Distinction, www.servicedogsofdistinction.org. Alan was born December 11, 1949 in South Bend, IN to Vincent Poczik and Betty (Bowman) Malone. He was a graduate of Brandywine High School, class of 1968. Afterwards, he attended Lake Michigan College. Alan joined the Army, serving for four years. On July 5, 1976, he met the love of his life, Carol McAfee; and only several weeks later, on August 22, 1976, they were married. He worked for, and retired from, Bendix/Bosch after 31 years. Alan will be best remembered for his fondness for dogs; especially his own, who he cherished, as well as being an avid fisherman.

Alan will be missed dearly by his wife of 46 years, Carol Poczik; his daughters, Katrina (Jerry) Smith, and Laura Gorbonosenko; his grandchildren, Gregory Novak, Chad (Angie) Novak, Jake Smith, Jade Smith, Tron Gorbonosenko, and Alan Gorbonosenko; his brother, Vincent (Debbie) Poczik; and his step-mother, Ima Poczik.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his step-father, Richard Malone.
