Alice's Obituary

Alice B. Toney, 89, of Dowagiac, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 in Edwardsburg, MI. She was born September 15, 1936 in Stone County, Arkansas to Archie and Roxie (Shepherd) Richardson.

The family will receive guests from 10am until the celebration of life service at 11am, Monday, October 6, 2025 at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac. Pastor Justin Shepard from Michiana Church of Christ, Dowagiac, officiating. Burial to follow at South Wayne Cemetery. Online condolences can be given at www.clarkch.com.

Alice was a talented seamstress, crafter, and cook. But nothing was as impressive as her expansive gardens over the years. She took great pride in her gardening and never missed an opportunity to take her family for "a tour of the garden" before departing her company. She loved her family more than anything, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lovingly passed down her knowledge of knitting, quilting, crocheting, and canning - something several generations are so thankful for today. Her love language was expressed through the amazing dishes she prepared for her family in her "old fashion southern way", aka "the only way" to cook. And when she wasn't busy creating amazing crafts, playing fun tricks or pranks or preparing delicious food, she enjoyed watching old westerns and shopping for new treasures.

Alice will be missed by her children, Charles "Chuck" (Ruby) Howard, William "Don" Howard, and Rovillie "Frances" Goins; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 14 great, great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Toney, whom she married on September 30, 1977 in Dowagiac; six siblings; and her parents.
