Allen's Obituary

Allen R. Vanderboegh, 86, of Sarasota, FL, passed away on Sat. May 11, 2024, at the Franciscan Health Center in Michigan City, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.
Allen was born on May 22, 1937, in South Haven, MI, to the late Lyle and Lotty (Rusin) Vanderboegh. He graduated from Coloma High School in 1957 and married Virginia Flood on Nov. 28, 1964.
Allen and his brother were lifelong partners in the propane gas industry, owning and operating their family businesses and partnering with others in the industry in Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois.
Allen enjoyed collecting antique automobiles and attending any antique car shows wherever he could find one.
Allen's love for his family was immeasurable. He also had a passion for Country Western dancing and was a dedicated fan of Michigan sports teams, especially the University of Michigan Football teams, Detroit Tigers, Pistons and Lions. But his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren play at their various sporting events.
Allen is survived by his wife Virginia; children – Andrew (Micki) Vanderboegh of Grand Rapids, MI, and Sally Vanderboegh of Michigan City, IN; grandchildren – Ida, Ethan, and Will; brother – Birney (Irma) Vanderboegh of St.Joseph, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
The Celebration of Life Service in honor of Allen will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 12:30pm. The service will take place at Starks & Menchinger Chapel in St. Joseph, MI, with Pastor Gerhard Erves officiating. After the service, a burial will be held at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation with the family at the funeral home from 11:am-12:30pm.
