Alfred Eugene Eaton, 86, of Niles, MI, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan with Pastor David Habicht officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior from 11am – 1 pm also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Al was born on January 16, 1937, to Delbert and Nettie (Hendrickson) Eaton at home in River Park, South Bend, where he was raised. He graduated from Adams High School, class of 1955. While in high school, Al began working in the warehouse for Powell Tool Supply in South Bend. He continued to advance throughout his professional career as an outside salesman for the industrial distribution company, serving nearly fifty years before retiring as owner and CEO.

On January 19, 1957, Al married Bonnie Poorman at First Presbyterian Church in Buchanan, MI. Over their 66 years of marriage, Al and Bonnie enjoyed traveling and learning together, later in life spending their winters in Florida. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing; especially with his brother and friends in Canada, and was an avid Notre Dame Fan. Through the years, Al attended many Irish Football and Basketball games.
Most of all, Al loved the Lord and cherished his family. His faith was very important to him and through the years he was always involved with Ridgedale Presbyterian Church in South Bend, and then First Presbyterian Church in Buchanan, as a member and officer in many capacities.

Al is survived by his wife, Bonnie Eaton; daughters, Deanna (John) Howard of North Vernon, IN. and Cari (Rick Melvin) Eaton of Niles; grandchildren, Alex Howard, Kelsey (Luke Sheldon) Howard, Jeremy (Amber Schutz) Melvin and Jessica (Blake Stokes) Melvin; great-grandchildren, Landon, Aaliyah, Logan, Raylee, Karmen and Laszlo; brother, Charles Eaton; sister, Marjorie Goebel and many beloved granddogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Nettie Eaton; sister-in-law, Shirley Eaton and brother-in-law, Gene Goebel.
