Amy was born on February 11, 1966 to Richard and Anita “Becky” Swem in Niles. She graduated from Buchanan High School in 1984 and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Western Michigan University. On December 17, 1988, she married Ric Seager at First Baptist Church in Niles.

Amy was a lifelong educator. She worked in various schools across Michigan as a teacher, at all levels. However, she found her most fulfillment as a Literacy Coach at Jackson ISD, Sturgis Public Schools, Kalamazoo Public Schools, and Schoolcraft Public Schools. In this role, she developed the skills and talents of other teachers, thereby magnifying her impact on students. Wherever she worked she left a lasting legacy of excellence.

However, the roles she relished the most were those of Mother and Wife. Her’s and Ric’s journey to parenthood was unique - so much so that it was chronicled on Dateline NBC! But once she became a mom, she was THE BEST! She never missed an event, game, or milestone. As a wife, she supported her husband Ric as a teacher and coach, and then as an administrator.

Amy is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ric Seager; father, Richard (Mary Soales) Swem; children, Clayton (Mikayla) Seager of Marshall, MI, Caitlin Seager of Red Wing, MN, Garrison Seager of Kalamazoo and Jacob Seager of Kalamazoo; grandson, Malachi Seager; siblings, Lisa (Beth Hoger), Rick Swem, Rob (Kim Siewert) Swem and Craig (Jill) Hubble, who made his home with the Swem family during his high school years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anita “Becky” Swem and daughter, Emily Seager.
