Anthony's Obituary

Anthony Jerome Wheeler, 67, of Benton Harbor, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. He passed away peacefully at his residence as a result of kidney failure after a long battle with chronic kidney disease. He was surrounded by family.

Anthony Jerome Wheeler, a loving father and husband, was born on July 6, 1954, in Chicago, IL to Arthur and Pauline Wheeler. He graduated from DuSable High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Bethel College. On May 31, 1975, Anthony married the love of his life, Jacqueline Marie Harrell.

Anthony had a long career as a draftsman/CAD Engineer in the manufacturing industry. Later in his career, he enjoyed working as an instructor for Computer-aided drafting courses at Lake Michigan College and Southwestern Michigan College.

Anthony enjoyed listening to a variety of music including smooth jazz and Christian music. He enjoyed taking his family on out-of-town vacations, visiting new places, and eating out at new restaurants. Later in life, Anthony enjoyed going on cruises and vacationing abroad with his wife. He loved cars, airplanes, war movies, and military aircraft documentaries. He also had a love for action and sci-fi movies; a love which he instilled in and is still shared by his children.

Anthony was a devoted man of God who was not afraid to share his faith and spread the love of Christ with those he met. He was a dedicated member of Unity Bible Baptist Church located at 2950 E. Empire, Benton Harbor. Anthony served as one of the church’s first deacons, a Sunday School teacher, website manager, technology consultant, and finance treasurer. God, in his infinite mercy, has welcomed home a good and faithful servant.

Anthony is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jacqueline M. Wheeler; his children, Erica C. Wheeler, Timothy J. Wheeler, and Rachel P. Wheeler; a brother, Leonard Wheeler. He was preceded in death by his sisters Elayne L. Wheeler and Ernestine Love, and his parents Arthur and Pauline Wheeler.
