Arlice was born October 10, 1935 in Benton Harbor, MI, to Arthur and Alice Wagner. Due to her father’s work, the family also lived in Chicago and Cincinnati prior to returning to Benton Harbor in 1947. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1953 and immediately went to work as a secretary for VM Corp. in Benton Harbor, then to Whirpool Corp. in the legal dept. On June 4, 1955 she married Forrest “Nick” Jewell and they were happily married for 66 years.

Arlice worked at Memorial Hospital (now Spectrum Health Lakeland) for 23 years holding the roles of Executive Secretary and then Director of Volunteers. She retired in May of 1992, in anticipation of becoming a grandmother in August 1992.
Arlice was a member of Napier Parkview Baptist church since the age of 12. She sang in the choir and ladies trio, played the organ and piano, was the church floral decorator, drama director for Easter and Christmas musicals, wedding coordinator and for several years was the Church Administrator. After retiring, Nick and Arlice would spend a month every winter and joined other local couples from churches across the country working at Camp Gilead, a Christian children’s camp in Polk City, Florida.

Arlice is survived by her husband, Nick (former Sheriff of Berrien County); son, Ken (Cyndi Kraklau) Jewell of Benton Harbor; daughter, Karen Ross of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Steven Ross of Bowling Green, KY, Katie Ross of St. Joseph, Nick Jewell of Watervliet, Jessi Jewell of Benton Harbor; their mother Myra Jewell of Benton Harbor; sister, Barbara (Warren) Tyler of Coloma; sisters-in-law, Shirley Wesner of Benton Harbor, Lorraine (Butch) Peppel of Eau Claire and Janice Jewell of Stevensville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
Arlice was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Scott Ross; sister-in-law, Maxine (Jim) Amundson; and brothers-in-law, Burton (Virginia) Jewell, Gerald (Elsie) Jewell, Donald Jewell and Fred Wesner.

Arlice always had the most beautiful flowers around her home and enjoyed caring for them. She very much enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandkids. She had the kindest soul and had many friends that were like family to her. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Woodland Terrace in Coloma for the care they’ve given her the last several months.
