Aurora's Obituary
Aurora Jane LaFond passed peacefully on the morning of March 28, 2026. She was born on July 10, 2013, in St. Joseph, Michigan, to her loving mother, Sarah Thornton.
Aurora was a light in every sense of the word—full of life, love, and adventure. She embraced each day with a joyful spirit and lived it to the fullest. Her smile could brighten any room, and her laughter was something everyone around her cherished. Though her time here was far too short, Aurora carried maturity beyond her years, greeting those she loved with genuine hugs, warmth, and affection.
She was an incredible daughter, a proud and loving big sister, a loyal friend, and a dedicated student. Aurora was an honor roll student who made friends easily with classmates and teachers alike, always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She had a kind and brave heart that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Aurora had a deep love for nature and animals. She cherished time spent on the farm, riding horses with her friends, and going on hikes with her family. Some of her happiest moments were spent along the beach, searching for shells and stones, or taking small adventures with the people she loved most. She also treasured trips to visit extended family, creating bonds and memories she held close to her heart.
In the past year, Aurora faced a long and difficult battle with cancer. Through it all, she remained incredibly strong, carrying herself with grace, positivity, and courage. She never let her light dim, becoming a true symbol of bravery, resilience, and love to all who witnessed her journey. Her strength continues to inspire and will never be forgotten.
Aurora is survived by her parents, Sarah Thornton and William III(Bill) Long; her siblings, Nahla LaFond and Kashton Long; her grandmother, Michelle Thornton; her uncles, Mike Cooke and Colton Baggett; her grandparents, William II(Bill) and Heather Long, and Rosalee Long; and her great-grandparents, Kathy Thornton, Keith LaFond and William (Bill) and Yvonne Long. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Robert Thornton; and her great-grandmother, Sue LaFond.
Aurora’s life, though brief, was filled with meaning, love, and unforgettable moments. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and a reminder to live fully and love deeply. She will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held in July, with further details being provided at a later date.
