Betty's Obituary

Betty L. Byers of Holland, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 14, surrounded by her family following a courageous, year-long battle with leukemia.

She was born June 24, 1938, in Danville, Illinois to Clara Nixon. She married Dale Byers on January 10, 1958. During their 64 years of marriage, Betty served as a pastor’s wife, raised 5 sons, and completed her associate’s degree from Lake Michigan College.

Betty loved quiet, contemplative activities. She was an avid reader, word puzzle whiz, and embroidery enthusiast. But her greatest joy in life was being with her family. She loved time spent with her sister, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Byers, and a son, Kerry Byers.

Surviving family include:
1 sister – Susan (Don Zoss) Hershberger (Phoenix, AZ)
4 sons: Kevin (Debbie) grandchildren Nate and Emily; Scott (Rosanne) grandchildren Joelle, Lyssa, and Christopher, and 5 great-grandchildren; Paul (Kris) grandchildren James, Jennifer, Jonathan, and Jessica, and 4 great-grandchildren; and John (Sara) grandchildren Benjamin and Thomas.

There will be a gathering at Bethel Baptist Church of South Haven, on Friday, June 20, with visitation at 11AM, funeral service at noon.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Holland, who ministered to her in her last days.
