Beuna's Obituary
Beuna Mae Kraak, 87, of Decatur, MI, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Beuna was born on October 6, 1936 in Decatur, MI to the late Lee and Irma Osborn.
On August 31, 1953 she married Frank Kraak; he preceded her in death on January 27, 1997. Beuna was a long time member of the First Reformed Church in Decatur. She was extremely involved cheering on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their sporting events. She loved birds and gardening, and was an avid Detroit Tiger and University of Michigan sports fan. Beuna also enjoyed babysitting her grand-dogs. She loved her family and they loved her and will greatly miss her.
Beuna is survived by her children – Cindy Athey of Decatur, Steve Kraak of Monticello, WI and Janice (Steve) Groendyk of Coloma; grandchildren – Wade (Jean) Athey, Brant (Chrissy VanTilburg) Athey, Kristin (Adam) Wiklund, Jill (Khris) Davis, Alexandra Kraak, Kylee Groendyk, and Joshua (Jamie) Groendyk; great grandchildren – Augustus and Violet Athey, Kaley and Ryan Athey, Jaxon and Brooklyn VanTilburg, Savannah, Sawyer and Wren Wiklund, Pablo and Phoenix Davis, and Frank Moknes, Dylan, Lila, Molly and Tyler Groendyk, Mason and Hali Pilch; also several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sisters – Loralee (Ebo) Mejeur and Loretta (Keith) Leighton; sister-in-laws Bev (Bud) Hope and Agnes McCon; brother-in-law Peter (Eleanor) Kraak; and parent-in-laws Peter and Thelma Kraak; and a son-in-law Scott Athey.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday-January 22, 3:00pm, at Newell Chapel in Decatur with Rev. Dan Kroeze officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Decatur. Visitation with the family precedes the service from 1:00-3:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals On Wheels, 1708 Colfax Ave., Benton Harbor, MI 49022.
