Beverly's Obituary
Beverly Sue (Rukes) Jennings passed away on Wednesday, October 22nd, at the age of 81.
Beverly was born November 28, 1943, in Benton Harbor to Lewis and Nellie (Harrison) Rukes. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1962, also graduating from beauty college that same year. Bev worked as a hairdresser and stylist for over 50 years, eventually owning the New Image Styling Salon in St Joseph where she enjoyed working with many longtime clients and her best friend, Ruth Wittig, until she retired.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Jennings of St Joseph, with whom she celebrated her 35th wedding anniversary in December of 2024. Bev was happiest spending time with Dan and her children and grandchildren, so they often traveled to see them, stopping at every antique shop along the way.
Bev is also survived by her brother, Bill Rukes, her daughters Stacy (Harris) Gibson, Jamey (Harris) Wolbert and her spouse Christopher, and Reagan (Harris) Craven and her spouse Heath, as well as her stepdaughters Tracy (Jennings) Tobin and her spouse Joel, and Tegan Jennings. She adored her nine grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Dianna (Rukes) Lerke and JoAnn Rukes, and her brother Frederick Rukes.
Beverly was cared for during her final years by her family and by the wonderful staff at The Willows in St Joseph. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in Beverly’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Following cremation, Beverly’s remains will be laid to rest with her parents at North Shore Memory Garden in Coloma. A celebration of her life with friends and family will be planned for the summer of 2026.
