Bradley's Obituary

Bradley Scott Penning, 62, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025, at his home. He was born May 13, 1963, in Dowagiac, MI, to Joseph and Shirley (Hartung) Penning.

The family will receive guests from 12:00pm until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Newell Chapel, 83313 M-51, Decatur. Interment will follow at Harrison Cemetery in Decatur.

Bradley was simply a kind-hearted, loyal, and loving man. He attended Ferris State University and went on to build a meaningful career as a manufacturing engineer, where his strong work ethic, intelligence, and attention to detail truly shined. He was a devoted husband and embraced the role of stepfather with ease, showing up with unwavering love, laughter, and support. His wife, Arlene, was his steadfast companion and caregiver, and together they built a life full of devotion and deep connection.

A true outdoorsman, Bradley found his joy on the water—especially in his kayak. He lived for adventure and wasn’t afraid of a big thrill, whether paddling over waterfalls or navigating whitewater rapids. He also enjoyed cross-country skiing and snowboarding. When not seeking adrenaline, he took great pride in his yard, spending countless hours on his riding lawnmower and perfecting every inch of the land he loved.

Bradley had a lifelong passion for music and delighted in learning to play many instruments over the years. Above all, nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with his family and his beloved pets.

Bradley will be deeply missed by his wife, Arlene (Jurek) Penning, whom he married on July 5, 2014, in Decatur; his step-children, Rachel (Kyle) Delaney, Heather (Chuck) Kelley, Matthew (Angie) Meneou, and Adam (Samantha) Meneou; his grandchildren, Ciara, Corrine, Maddie, Hannah, Greyson, Matthew, Dylan, Yaeli, Bella, and Adalyn; and his brothers, Bruce Penning and Brian Penning. He will also be lovingly missed by his dogs, Laddie and Wolfie, and his cat, Sebastian.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his best friends—his loyal companions Smokey and Garfield.

Bradley’s legacy of love, laughter, loyalty, and adventure will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
