Carlene's Obituary
Mrs. Carlene Joan Freier passed away peacefully on her 91st birthday on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Hanson Hospice Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, July 17 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel at 7:00 pm. Visitation with the family will be from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. Carlene was born on July 7, 1933 to Raymond and Vera (Andres) Bock in Lawrence, MI. A lifelong resident of Southwest Michigan, Carlene married Gerald H. Freier on September 4, 1954 in Benton Harbor. They were happily married for 65 years before Gerald passed away in 2019.
Carlene was a longtime member of the former St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, currently Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. She served as the church secretary for several years and also worked in the school office.
Carlene spent most of her working career at Certified Metal Finishing where she was the office manager. She enjoyed bird watching in her back yard and was a fantastic cook, often cooking what Gerald brought in from his hunting and fishing trips. She was known for her delicious lasagna and fudge nut brownies. She also was a skilled seamstress, making clothing for her children. Carlene was a loving, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who adored her family very much.
Carlene is survived by her sons, Gerald Freier Jr and Thomas (Susan Bublick) Freier; and grandchildren, Cory Craig, Jennifer Craig, Krystal Freier, and Jonathon Freier. Along with her husband, Gerald, Carlene was also preceded in death by her daughter, Holly Craig, parents, and siblings, Marjorie Johnson, Raymond (Bunnie) Bock Jr, Roslyn Mills and Donald (Betty) Swanson.
