Carol's Obituary
Carol Odell Smith, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 12, 2025 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Robert Confer officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Carol’s name may be made to Lory’s Place in St. Joseph. Carol was born July 6, 1932 in Benton Harbor to Lewis & Mabel Odell. She graduated from St. Joseph High School and on November 4, 1950 she married Larry Smith in Benton Harbor. Carol worked in the food & restaurant industry her entire career. She worked for seventeen years as a waitress at Win Shuler’s in Stevensville, before opening & operating Bac-n-Eggs in St. Joseph for four years. After closing Bac-n-Eggs, Carol operated C & S Catering in Hagar Shores for a number of years. Carol was a member of First Church of God where she was an active member of the Prime Timers group, serving for nine years as the chairperson. In her free time, she enjoyed drawing & oil painting, camping, traveling, skiing, cooking & baking, and most of all, the time spent with her family and many friends.
Carol is survived by her son Bradley Smith of Mishawaka; three grandchildren-Michelle (Troy) Ballard of Coloma, Joshua (Kristin) Reichert of South Bend, Jessie (Joe) Larscheid of Iowa; two great-grandchildren-Jacob Williams & Sydney (Garrett) Zuver; several nieces & nephews; and her goddaughter Wendy (Roger) Burke-Karber. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry on January 24, 2000, her son Gene Douglas “Doug” Smith in 2001, her daughter Janece “Jan” Bowers in 2021, her grandson Dustin Faultersak and her siblings-Nancy Robandt, Jeanne Goodwin & Dennis Odell.
