Charles R. Stark, 98, of Buchanan passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 16, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 212 W. Front St., Buchanan with Pastor Daniel Barz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior, from 10-11 am also at the church. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan with full military honors rendered by the Buchanan American Legion, Post 51 and the United States Army. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Swem Chapel, Buchanan. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com.

Charlie was born on September 26, 1924, to the late Christian and Elizabeth (Weber) Stark at their home in Baroda. He was a WWII veteran, honorably serving in the United States Army 34th Infantry Division from 1944-1946. On October 1, 1955, he married Jeanette L. Dill at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Buchanan and shared 60 years of marriage together. In 1955, they purchased their farm which Charlie operated into his 90s and was his true passion.

Charlie was a humble and kind man, with a servant’s heart. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Buchanan, and continued to be active in the church. He truly lived by faith, family, and farming.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Bryan) Virgil of Buchanan; grandchildren, Kristen (Stuart) Wortman, Brett (Meghan) Virgil and Erin (Logan) Mosher; great-grandchildren, Jameson, Caroline and Theodore; sisters, Delores Zebell and Jane (Chris) Schau; sisters-in-law, Violet Stark and Mary (Robert) Garoutte. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Stark; son, Ronald Stark; brothers, Richard and Gene Stark; brother-in-law, Jerry Zebell and sister-in-law, Dora Hombaker.
