Charley's Obituary

Charley Dean Mott, 88, of Benton Harbor, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born August 7, 1937 in Jefferson City, MO to the late Herman and the late Stella (Raymond) Mott.

The family will receive guests from 4pm until 6pm, Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., Saint Joseph. He is survived by his wife, Winona Faye (Jackson) Mott; his son, Jeff (Cindy) Mott; his grandchildren, Travis Mott, and Karlee Mott; his siblings, Lee Mott, and Polly Rankin; and many special nieces and nephews.

Charley is preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Roy, Edward, and Carl Mott; four sisters, Mildred Clemens, Dessie Kennedy, Bonnie Hays, and Virginia Mott; and his parents.

Charley was well known in the community for his music. He was the lead for Charley Mott & the Jokers for over 50 years. Playing with numerous band members, including best friend and drummer, Billy Wells, and brother, Clarence Mott. During Charley’s time with the band, he had the opportunity to play with many great entertainers and tour the country. Charley was also a Mason and lifelong member of Lake Shore Lodge No. 298.

Throughout his life, Charley enjoyed simple pleasures – spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his extended family and friends. He was a pillar of strength for his family and will be deeply missed. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a talented musician with a life well lived.
