Bud's Obituary

Chester “Bud” Bays Walkden, born May 25, 1927, passed peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Buchanan Meadows.

He was the son of Mabel and Chester Walkden and enlisted in the Navy on January 25, 1945, honorably serving until July 12, 1946. On December 12, 1948, Chester married Betty Handley at Buchanan Church of Christ. Together they raised 3 children, Shirley Knox, William Walkden and James Walkden. Chester was a hard-working family man. He was co-owner of Walkden Sand & Concrete. He loved running the machinery and all of the manual labor involved. Chester and Betty owned and operated Betty’s Ceramics out of their home for years. Both loved the interaction and enjoyment had by all. He was a member of Buchanan Christian Church where he and his wife served for many years. Chester and his brother Richard were instrumental in the rebuilding of the church after the fire. He loved nothing more than being outside working in the yard. Mowing, weed eating, making his property look the best it could. Chester took pride in a hard days work, and was always the first to volunteer to lend a hand.

Chester was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Chester; wife, Betty; sister, Irene; son, William; brother, Richard; and grandson, Andrew. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley (Dave) Knox; son, James Walkden; grandchildren, David (Manda) Knox, Jason (Kerry) Knox, Jessica (Craig) Monsma, Aleisha (JR) Rauch, Billy Walkden and Alyssa Walkden; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
