Christopher M. Safin, 47, of Aurora, CO, formerly of Decatur, MI, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024.
He was born on July 13, 1977, in Kalamazoo, MI and was adopted at two years of age by his parents Leonard and Judith Safin. Residing on the family farm Chris could always be found working with his hands, doing farm chores, driving the tractor or herding cows. You always saw Chris with a book in his hands and along with listening to music he loved watching Seinfeld, Star trek and Jeopardy. He had excelled at playing the trumpet for the Decatur High School band. Chris also played different sports growing up from basketball to baseball, but the sport he thrived and loved the most was wrestling. Chris was always a fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and later became a fan of Colorado pro sports as well. In the spring of 2001, he moved to Aurora, Colorado with his sister, Stephanie. In February 2007, Chris became the proud father to his daughter, Abigail Safin. Chris shared his love for cooking with his daughter, cooking the dinners while she made the desserts.
As many of you know, Chris struggled with alcohol addiction and unfortunately the disease was too much for him to overcome.
Surviving are his daughter – Abigail Safin of Aurora, CO; two sisters – Stephanie (Jesse) Turley of Charlotte, MI and Carrie (Justin) Rosema of Decatur, MI; five nieces and nephews – Brycen and Jackson Turley and Amyleia, Wrenna and Zoe Rosema; and many friends and extended family.
Preceding him in death were his parents – Leonard and Judith (Carlton) Safin.
A service to celebrate Chris’ life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 9, at Newell Chapel and Cremation Services – Starks Family Funeral Homes, 83313 M-51, Decatur, where friends may visit with the family from 12:00 PM until the time of services.
