Dave's Obituary

David Charles Hinz, 82, of St. Joseph, MI, passed away on Friday – November 18, 2022, in his home surrounded by his beloved family.

David was born on May 14, 1940 in St. Joseph to the late Edward and Josephine (Kamber) Hinz, Sr. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph High School. David served his country while in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1965. On July 11, 1964 in Arlington Heights, IL, he married the love of his life Mary Ann Kindler. David was a special machine electrician and worked at Leco Corp., Eagle Technologies and Weldun Intl. He was a member of the Stevensville American Legion Post #568; a past president and active member of the DANK in Benton Harbor; and a lifetime member of the Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ in St. Joseph.

Dave was proud to be a native of St. Joseph. He loved everything about the area; the lake, fishing, sailing, walking the pier, strolls downtown, concerts on the bluff, sunsets, fireworks and the many summer and winter festivals. Dave was the #1 cheerleader for his kids and grandkids. He could always be found in the stands taking pictures and supporting them with the team's t-shirt, hat or any other fan gear. Dave and Mary Ann loved to travel and had many wonderful adventures around the world. They treasured the vacations they took with family and friends the most.

Dave always enjoyed time with his loving family, special friends and amazing neighbors. All were welcomed like family and greeted with his big smile and an even bigger hug. He was a true gentleman, he was kind, patient, a wonderful role model, a true blessing to all who were touched by his life.

David is survived by his wife of 58 years Mary Ann; his children – Ramona (Robert) Jones of Okemos, MI, Jacqueline (Richard) Graebel of Stevensville, MI, Daniel (Kymber) Hinz of Port St. Joe, FL, and Joy (Rodd) Elges of Lisle, IL; beloved grandchildren – Kurtis & Katie Jones, Christopher, Daniel & Elle Graebel, JR & Sydnie Bradley, and Luke Elges; and brothers – Edward Hinz, Jr of Tampa, FL and John (Rhonda) Hinz of Kalamazoo, MI.
