Dawne's Obituary

Dawne Louise (Anderson) Nelson December 18, 1943 – August 28, 2022
Dawne was born in Chicago, IL the eldest of John and Eileen Anderson’s four children. She graduated from Arlington High School and attended Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts, graduating with a degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy in 1967.
Dawne made her way to Berrien Springs, MI to the Berrien County Day Program for the Hearing Impaired, where she worked with the children that suffered hearing loss due to the rubella epidemic. Dawne became the babies teacher and mentored the parents and children for the next 30 years until she retired in 1998.
In 1971, Dawne married the love of her life, Dick Nelson, and started a life of adventure. They and their four children traveled, were active with 4-H, did school activities and all the things a family does together.
In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling around the world, antiquing (especially if she got a bargain!), participating at the local Senior Citizens Centers, and being with her family and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dick and brother Brian. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Rick (Kris), Kingston, WI; Scott, Granger, IN; Kim (Steve) Shuran, Berrien Springs, MI; and Erick (Tami), Berrien Springs, MI; and grandchildren Zoe, Bryce, Nick, Mitch, Brody, and Adeliese; brother Keith and sister Noreen along with extended family and friends.
Dawne will be remembered as a shining force and a woman that could do anything that she made her mind up to do. She loved to laugh. She loved her friends and her family. She truly made a difference in the lives of so many. We love you, Dawne!
Starks Family Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation will be held at Starks Heritage Chapel in Berrien Springs on Thursday, 9/1/22 from 4pm – 7pm. The funeral will be held at Starks Heritage Chapel in Berrien Springs on Friday, 9/2/22 at 11am, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery to follow.
