Dean's Obituary
Dean Roland Joseph DeVries, 74, of Niles, MI, passed away on Thursday – December 11, 2025. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
Dean was born on February 21, 1951 in Chicago, IL, to the late Eugene and Virginia (Castiglia) DeVries.
Dean was retired from the St. Joseph Public Library as a computer engineer for 14 years (2002-2016) in South Bend, IN. He also previously owned Dean’s Auto Sales in South Bend. Dean had a passion for racing. He enjoyed motorcycles, race cars and classic automobiles. Dean was particularly proud of his fully restored 1967 Chevy Nova he named Novocaine. He will be missed by friends and especially his family.
Dean is survived by his wife Dina in Niles; two daughters of a previous marriage – Heather Cassidy of St. Joseph, MI and Tracy (Robert) Amid of Zeeland, MI; four grandchildren; and sisters – Ellen (Tom) Diener of St. Joseph, MI and Sandy (Paul) Drescher of IN.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday – December 18, 11:00am, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 718 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo, MI 49117. Visitation precedes the service from 9:30am-10:30am at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Burial follows the service at Pine Grove Cemetery.
