Delbert James “Jim” Dohner, 95, of New Buffalo, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Franciscan Health Hospital, Michigan City.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 5-8 pm ET., on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. Burial will take place at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to the family c/o Sylvia Dohner. Jim was born on December 9, 1927, to Floyd and Charlotte (Shadlay) Dohner in Ambia, IN. On July 27, 1949, he married Adonna Stantz in Michigan City, IN. He was a United States Army Veteran. Professionally, Jim operated as a metal fabricator and welder for IBEW Local 531. He was very accomplished in his trade, having all certifications. Jim took pride in his work and was a perfectionist, serving with Local 531 for 70 years, working until he was 90 because of the love for his trade.

Jim loved his children, grandchildren and was always there for them. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family.

Jim is survived by his children, Greg (Lisa) Dohner, Terrie (Kathy Hammons) Dohner, Tim (Lynne) Dohner, John (Debra Smith) Dohner, Jeff (Tammy) Dohner and Sylvia (Justin Jirtle) Dohner; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren and siblings, Bill (Gloria) Dohner, Tiny Dohner and Gypsy Sinks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Charolotte; beloved wife, Adonna Dohner on February 7, 2007; son, Steven Dohner; grandchildren, John & Megan Dohner; siblings, Theodore, Robert, Oliver, Richard and Pepper Dohner and Suezzette Daniels.
