Doris's Obituary

Doris Evans, 105, died Friday, April 11, 2025 at Pine Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Stevensville. She was the daughter of Carroll and Mildred Gifford of Berrien Springs and was a lifelong resident of Berrien Springs.

Doris was a graduate of Berrien Springs High School and South Bend Business College. She worked for the Berrien County Treasurers Office in St. Joseph for 10 years. After raising a family, she worked for the Berrien County Board of Canvassers for 32 years. She had been active in PTA and had been a cub scout den mother.

Doris married Wendell Lewis “Lew” Evans in 1941 and they were married for 72 years until his death in 2014. They were parents of three sons: Thomas, Bruce (both deceased), and Dr. Mark Evans of Berrien Springs. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed fine music and was a skilled bridge player.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Starks Heritage Chapel and Cremation Service, 8747 US 31, Berrien Springs, MI 49103. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs. Memorials may be made to the Berrien Springs Methodist Church where she was a member or Corewell Health Hospice & Palliative Care.
