Doris's Obituary

Doris L. Schrumpf, 85, of Galien, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend peacefully, with her family beside her.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Glendora, 1733 W. Glendora Rd., Buchanan with Rev. Jonathan Liebich officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior, from 10-11 am at church and the night before, from 5-7 pm on Thursday, December 8, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan. Burial will follow services on Friday at Galien Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Glendora. Doris was born on December 29, 1936, to George and Elsie (Haase) Schrumpf at the family home in Galien. She was confirmed in 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sawyer and baptized in the German Church in Galien. Doris graduated from Galien High School in 1954. After graduating, she went to work at the Galien Elevator Company, then Buchanan CO-OP, Buchanan Feed Mill all operating as the bookkeeper. Doris was an extremely hard worker, and also drove tractor on the family farm and handled the bookkeeping.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church of Glendora, where she had been a past church secretary and in the choir. Doris also enjoyed helping at the church events making pies, assisting at church with quilting and making fleece and embroidered blankets for family. After retirement, she worked at Harding’s Supermarket in the deli department at both Buchanan and Bridgman.

Doris is survived by her sister, Ruth Schrumpf of Galien; nieces, Susan (Rodney Roberts), Deborah (Steve Johnson) and Laurie (Jed) Wandland; grandnephews, Isaac Schrumpf, Dean Roberts, Michael Wandland and grandniece, Olivia Wandland. She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Elsie Schrumpf; brothers, Richard and Fredrick Schrumpf; nephew, Eric Schrumpf and sister-in-law, Marilyn Schrumpf.
