Dorothy Dorow Mutz, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away, Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living in St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Court & Market St., St. Joseph, with Rev. Michael Roth officiating. Private burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, and from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the Church. Memorial donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Caring Circle Hospice, or The Lutheran Hour. Dorothy was born July 4, 1931 in Marine City, MI to George & Lillian (Sharrow) Hewitt. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Class of 1949. On August 20, 1949, she married Al Dorow at Trinity Lutheran Church. Dorothy devoted her life to caring for her family and her home. After Al’s passing, she married Theodore Mutz on August 21, 2013. She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served with the Altar Guild, the Ladies Aide and the Funeral Committee. In her free time Dorothy enjoyed playing cards at the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center and attending their activities.
Dorothy is survived by three daughters-Deborah (David) Ostrander of St. Joseph, Janet (Jerry) Helmker of South Lyon, MI, Tami (Bob) Gelesko of Indio, CA, five grandchildren-Kristy Huebner, Kari Delvecchio, Brian (Vanessa) Gelesko, Jill (Roberto) Insuasti, & Chelsea (Kavan) Olesh; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband Al Dorow on August 20, 1999, her second husband Theodore Mutz on August 23, 2016, her parents, and by three brothers-Jack, George & Jim Hewitt.
