Dorothy's Obituary

Dorothy Joy Masterson, 84, of Bridgman, MI, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at her home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, located at 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.

Dorothy, affectionately known as Dottie, was born on January 1, 1940, in Buchanan, MI, to the late Earl and Minta (Henricks) Ross. She graduated from Berrien Springs High School in 1959 and worked at the local Dairy Queen where she met and fell in love with her husband, Clifford Wayne Masterson. On June 20, 1959, they were married and shared nearly 65 years together. Dorothy was a physical therapist aide for more than 20 years, first at the Cedarwood Medical Center and then at the former Berrien Center Hospital in Berrien Springs.

Dottie was a devoted Christian and a member of the First Church of God in Saint Joseph for many years, even watching the televised services when she was unable to attend in person. She dedicated her life to caregiving, especially for her family, always ready to provide the support and care needed during the most difficult times.

After retiring, Dottie cherished spring and summer, spending countless hours alongside Wayne working outside in the yard and tending to their flower garden. She also loved taking her dog, Abby, on long walks. When Abby got older and was unable to walk as well, she used a dog stroller so they could still enjoy their special time together.

Dottie loved to read and spent many summer days out in her sunroom engrossed in books by Christian authors who strengthened her faith.

Dottie had a tireless spirit and this was evident in her love of baking. During the holidays, she would start cooking days in advance, preparing a feast for the family. She cherished having her loved ones together and made sure everyone had their share of crescent rolls and cookies.

Dorothy is survived by her husband – Clifford Wayne Masterson; her children – Debra Beilman, Clifford “Bud” Masterson, Scott (Bonnie) Masterson and Kevin (Melissa) Masterson; five grandchildren – Amber (Thomas), Kirk (Michele), Morgan (David), Nickalaus and Roman; three great grandchildren – Parker, Maddox and Avery; and a sister – Sherry (Don) Hall. Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents; brothers – Junior Ross and Kerry Ross; and sisters – Ruth Burlingame, Punk Howe and Kathleen (Kat).

A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Thursday, June 6th, at 12 p.m., at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, with Pastor Bob Confer officiating. Burial follows at North Shore Memory Gardens. Visitation with the family precedes the service, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice. Friends wishing to leave the family a message of condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com
