Edith's Obituary
Edith Christine Wells, 92, of Benton Harbor passed away at her home on Monday, May 5, 2025. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 9, at 12PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Bobby Jackson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Circle Hospice or Marie Yeager Cancer Center. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Edith was born on April 6, 1933, in Hayti, MO, to Claud & Edith (Wilson) Quertermous. She graduated from Hayti High School in 1951. On October 25, 1957, Edith married the love of her life, Billy F. Wells, at the Congregational Church in Benton Harbor. The two were happily married 61 years before Billy’s passing in 2018. When Edith first moved to the Benton Harbor area, she began working in retail for The Petite Shop, later Edith & Billy, along with Charley & Fay Mott, bought and ran The Jokers Club for 19 years. Edith worked as the bookkeeper while Billy ran the front of house and was the entertainment with his band, Charley Mott & The Jokers.
Edith was a genuine lady who took great pride in her fashion, hair appearance and skin care routine; always having a beautiful glow about her. She was as sweet as she was feisty. What brought her the most joy was spending time with her family; she will be missed by all who knew her.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Reshonda Knoop of Benton Harbor; granddaughter, Kiley Turney of Sodus; nephew, Wayne Tipton; niece, Fay (Charley) Mott; great-nephews, Jeff (Cindy) Mott & Tony (Tiffany) Tipton; great-great-nephew, Casey (Isabell) Tipton; and great-great-niece, Karlee Mott. The family would also like to thank Caring Circle Hospice for their wonderful work.
