Elaine's Obituary

Elaine A. Overley, 92, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at her home in Decatur. She was born July 29, 1930 in Kalamazoo, MI to Kenneth Springer and Alva Keeny and adopted by Edward and Elizabeth (Keeny) Vliek.

The family will receive guests from 11am until time of celebration of life service at 1pm, Friday, January 6, 2023 at Newell Chapel, 83313 M51, Decatur. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Decatur. Memorial contributions may be given to the VFW – Post 6248, 560 N. Phelps St., Decatur, MI 49045.

Elaine was a family focused woman. After her marriage to Marvin Overley on October 5, 1949, the couple had five children. During that time, Elaine started a career with the Decatur Post Office, serving her community in various roles for over 25 years. She was also a life time member of the VFW - Post 6248 Ladies Auxiliary in Decatur. Although she enjoyed a good puzzle and her beloved Chicago Cubs (never missing a game), her true passion in life was her family, especially her grandchildren, and later in life, her “adopted dog”, Scooby. Her presence will be missed by many.

Elaine is survived by her children, Richard Overley, John (Debbie) Overley, James (Shirley) Overley, Kathy Stewart, and Steven (Lisa) Overley; her grandchildren, Rick (Shauna) Athey, Jamie (Vincent) Benner, Jared (Sarah) Overley, Justin (Sara) Overley, Kelsey (Jordan) Beeching, Shelby Overley, Michelle (Ben) Guettler, Nick Stewart, Nathan Stewart, Matthew (Jessica) Overley, Ashley (Kevin) Majewski, Demi Overley, Jenna Overley, and Amber Overley; 19 great grandchildren; and her sisters, Evelyn (Sonny) Stambek, and Marcia Krueger.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Overley (Feb. 23, 2009); her parents, Edward and Elizabeth (Keeny) Vliek; and her brother, Edward Vliek.
