Elsie's Obituary

Elsie Harke, 100, of St. Joseph, went to meet her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, April 5, 2024 at Corwell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

A Christian Funeral will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1965 Broadway Ave., Benton Harbor, with Rev. Nathan Buch officiating. Entombment will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Church. Memorial donation in Elsie’s name may be made to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or Michigan Lutheran High School. Elsie was born June 23, 1923 in Vladimer, Volodymyr to August & Augustina (Quiram) Fritz. On August 2, 1947 she married Gustave Harke in Germany. After moving to the United States in 1952, they settled in the Twin Cities area and Elsie found employment at V-M Corporation in Benton Harbor and later as a cook at the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant in Bridgman. Elsie was a long-time, active member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church which merged and became Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Elsie was a wonderful lady, full of joy with a constant smile on her face. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Elsie is survived by her son Heinz Harke of St. Joseph; several nieces & nephews, her Church family; and a special friend Myrth Kremers. She was preceded in death by her husband Gustave, four brothers & three sisters.
