Ethel's Obituary

Ethel May Daggitt, 99, of Stevensville, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at The Willows Assisted Living. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, at 12 PM at Lakeshore Christian Church, 5565 Washington Ave., St. Joseph. A private burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 11 AM until the time of the service at church. Ethel was born on January 21, 1923, in St. Joseph, to James & Elsie (Leach) Tahaney. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1940. She attended Twin Cities Beauty College before joining the U.S. Navy where she served as a yeoman third class in Washington DC. On January 29, 1944 Ethel married Albert Daggitt, Jr., at the Church of God in Benton Harbor. They spent 53 years together before his passing in 1997. Ethel worked in the graphic arts department for Whirlpool Corporation as a supervisor for 25 years before retiring in 1985. She volunteered her time to The Soup Kitchen, Hospice, Lakeland’s CT Unit, Lakeshore Christian Church, and Lincoln Senior Center as a guide for their trips. She also enjoyed line dancing, reading, riding her motorcycle and boating. Never wanting to miss a party, Ethel hosted her family reunions for 25 years, where they would rent cabins and spend days boating and building memories.

Ethel is survived by her children, Sherry (Fred) Pries of Onekama, MI, Janet (Ed) Stover of Berrien Springs, and Lori Eberling of Saginaw; grandchildren, Scott (Collette) Pries, Rebecca (Jay) Vega, Greg (Laura) Pries, Kristin (David) Albers, Jim (Cali) Stover, and Dell (Kim Shaw) Darnell; great-grandchildren, Bryce Albers, Evan (Stephanie) Albers, Jacki (Donovon) O’Neill, Olivia Pries, Faith Vega, Jenny Vega, Brandon Pries, Tyler Pries, Story Darnell, Teagan Darnell, Stella Stover and Hudson Stover. She was preceded in death by her parents, James & Elsie; husband, Albert; granddaughter, Jennifer Coone; three brothers; two sisters; son-in-law, Fred Eberling; and beloved friend, L.C. Maynard.
