Gene's Obituary
Eugene ‘Gene’ Kucharski, 85, beloved husband of Barbara, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from complications of Lung Cancer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
Gene was born in Chicago on March 4, 1937 to Ann Szpunar Kucharski. He attended St. Pascal Grammar School, Weber High School, and earned a Bachelor and Masters Degree from DePaul University. Gene began teaching at St. Symphorosa and Prospect Heights grammar school where he took a Business Managers position. Thereafter he took a Business Manager position for the Winnetka School District until his retirement 24 years later.
Gene is survived by his wife or 61 years Barbara. He was blessed with three children – Julie (Ed Burke), Nancy (Kevin Kelly, and Gene (Margie Liotta); and five grandchildren – Katie and Eddie Burke, and Casey, John and Andy Kelly. Also surviving is a cousin – Joyce Schneider.
The family lived in Arlington Heights for 36 years, and spent free time in Grand Beach, MI. After retirement winters were spent on Longboat Key, FL and summers in Grand Beach. Gene loved the beach, golfing, his garden, lively conversations and just having fun.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 14, 12pm(EST) at St. Mary of the Lake Parish – 718 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo, MI, with Father Basker Lopez officiating. Visitation with the family precedes the service one hour prior to the Mass from 11:00am-12:00pm(EST) at the church. Memorial contributions in Gene’s memory may be made to the Misericordia Home at misericordia.com or mailed to 6300 N. Ridge Ave., Chicago, IL 60660.
