Frances's Obituary
Frances was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 27, 1940 to Willie R. Bingham and Carey Flounoy Buchanan. She came to Michigan as a young girl, with her parents and 7 siblings as her father was hired to work on the Sherman Dairy Farm. Frances lived the remainder of her years in South Haven. While growing up and attending school here, she met the man she would marry, Charles John Dailey, Jr. of South Haven. They had three cherished children: Charles John Dailey, III, Kim (Dailey) Rawlings, and Carol (Dailey) Salvaggio. She supported the family blueberry business as a bookkeeper and spent the majority of her career working as a bookkeeper for Fleming Brothers Oil Company. Throughout the years, Fran was blessed with and deeply loved by her 8 grandchildren: Nita (Brian) Anderson, Amanda Salvaggio, Charles (Jovana) Dailey IV, Rebecca (Salvaggio) Shull, Anna Dailey, Christi (Antone) Brier, Nick Dailey, and Amy (Ayden) Johnston, she also leaves behind 11 great grandchildren: Ashlyn, Tristan, Tyson, Gianna, Colin, Karsen, Kyra, Lily, Presley, Lainey, and Kori.
In the second half of life, she was adored for over 40 years by the love of her life, Dale Curran. They cared for one another deeply and enjoyed every aspect of life together, side by side until his passing this last September. They lived their best lives together, attending church, going for pizza and bowling weekly, fish fry nights with friends, family gatherings and celebrations. Through their partnership, Frances gained three bonus daughters: Janice & Karen (Schuitema) Curran, and Cheryl Curran and two bonus grandsons, Aaron and Jacob Curran. Her family meant the world to her.
Frances was a giver and a caretaker all of her life. Many would say, “she would give you the shirt off of her back.” Fran was a beloved sister to Flora, Lavern, Linda, MaryLou, Robinette, William Doyle and Donald Gene. She was Aunt Fran or Granny Franny to many. Countless children spent time in her home under her care. Even in her final days, she continued to say she just “wanted to know that everyone would be alright”. She was a proud supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital for 36 years. She often supports causes such as the Wounded Warriors, the USO, and servicemen unions. Frances also frequently was found purchasing needed items for those she knew and loved (and those she did not know as well), slipping money into the hands of those who found themselves lacking, or coming up with reasons why you had to take something from her, which always happened to be something you were trying to figure out how to obtain on your own in hard times (such as groceries, utility payments, or clothes). She loved music, particularly four-part harmonies, and spent many years singing in school ensembles, church choirs, barbershop quartets and groups such as Sweet Adelaide’s. She loved to cook for family and was best known for her famous rolls which made an appearance at each family celebration and church gathering. She was an active member of both the Bangor and South Haven Churches of Christ for her entire adult life and the Free Methodist Church as a child. It was very important to her that her family and others had every opportunity to know Jesus.
Frances truly lived out the passage in Matthew 25 stating, “‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Her family knows she has now accepted her heavenly inheritance as scripture promised from a life well lived. “‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’”
