Freddie's Obituary
2024 at the age of 58. Freddie was the first-born child to the late Elbert and Nellie Sanders in
Covert, Michigan.
A natural storyteller and friend to all, Freddie embraced life with his infectious laughter and
warmth. He was raised in the close-knit community of Covert, attending Covert High School
and remaining a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, where his grandfather Rev. Noble
Sanders was the founding pastor.
Freddie's passion for broadcasting began early. After earning his degree in Broadcast
Engineering from Hawkeye Tech in 1990, his talents took him across the country for over
30 years. An exceptional radio host, DJ, and station engineer, Freddie's voice and magnetic
personality made him a fan favorite everywhere his career took him.
Most recently, Freddie shared his energy and expertise as the legendary DJ, Radio Host, Master
Engineer and Station Operator of WONG 105.5 FM and 1150 AM in Canton, Mississippi. His
commitment to broadcasting knew no bounds - Freddie was happiest behind the mic, connecting
with listeners and coworkers.
Family anchored Freddie's life. A loving father to Kierra, Malik, Whitney and Shauna, he was
blessed with eight grandchildren. Freddie’s siblings include Sheena, Tiffany, Torrence (Charity)
and Timothy (Brittany). His childhood friendships with Chris Crenshaw and Eric French spanned
decades.
Heaven's airwaves are now graced with Freddie's voice and unforgettable personality. He never
lost the humble spirit from his Covert beginnings. We were blessed to be part of Freddie's journey
- he lived life to the fullest.
