Fred's Obituary

Frederick J. “Fred” Steinke, 83, of Eau Claire, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. 

Fred was born on May 12, 1940, to Carl & Eleanor (Leitz) Steinke at his home in Sodus. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School before entering the United States Navy and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged. Fred then attended Lake Michigan College where he earned his bachelor’s in engineering. On November 10, 1962, Fred married the love of his life Nadine Fisher in Sodus. 

Fred was a member of Grace Lutheran Church- Eau Claire. In Fred’s spare time, he had a love for hunting, fishing, gardening, and anything to do with the outdoors. Woodworking was more than just a hobby for him. It was a passion that allowed him to express his creativity and craftsmanship. And of course making memories with his family and friends were an essential part of his life which provided endless love and joy. 

Fred is survived by his wife of 61 years Nadine Steinke; son Ronald (Heather) Steinke of Eau Claire; grandchildren, McKenzie (Kyle) Lott, Shelby (Mack Charles) Steinke, Cheyenne (Matt) Bond, Sophia Brook, and Phoebe Steinke; great-grandchild Javonni Steinke; and siblings, Carol Jakubs and Don Steinke. 
Fred was preceded in death by his parents Carl & Eleanor Steinke and daughter Rhonda Steinke. 

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 10AM, at Grace Lutheran Church, 6605 Pipestone St., Eau Claire, with Pastor David Schmidt officiating. A burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may visit with Fred’s family on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 4PM until 7PM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Sodus or Corewell Health Hospice. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
