Gladys's Obituary

Gladys Grieger, 104, of St. Joseph, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Caretel Inns of Lakeland.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, February 24, at 11 AM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Michael Roth officiating. Friends may visit with the family one-hour prior at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church – St. Joseph, or The St. Joseph Public Library. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.

Gladys was born on July 26, 1921, in St. Joseph to Samuel & Christina (Metmier) Grieger. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1937 and continued her education at Northern Illinois University where she earned a master’s degree in education. Following college, Gladys would begin her career as a teacher. She taught at Glencoe Schools in Glencoe, IL, as well as Child Development and Growth at Northwestern University in Chicago until her retirement. Gladys was a proud sister of Kappa Kappa Gamma, was a board member of the St. Joseph Public Library and enjoyed spending time reading and gardening.

Gladys is survived by her nieces, Catherine Pflaumer, Mary Lou Miller and Joan Grieger; and nephew, Richard Grieger. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel & Christina; brothers, Walter Grieger, Harold Grieger, and Edwin Grieger; and sister, Agnes Schultz.
