Greg's Obituary

Gregory A. “Greg” Heinerich, 68, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Spectrum Health Lakeland in St. Joseph. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services. A Time of Gathering Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 4 from 2 PM until 4PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Greg was born on September 5, 1953, in South Bend, IN to John & Dorothy (Donat) Heinerich. He attended St. John’s Elementary School and transferred to Benton Harbor Public School for middle school and high school, graduating in 1972. Following graduation, Greg proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he worked as a medic. Upon returning home, Greg worked at his family’s brick cleaning business. He later changed career’s and began working in the warehouse for the former Imperial Printing, now called Walworth’s Printing & Publishing, retiring after 15 years. While working, Greg met Virginia “Ginny” Emery and the two fell in love. They were married on October 23, 1988 in St. Joseph. The two enjoyed taking their boat onto the St. Joseph River to go fishing. Greg also spent his time mushroom hunting, working on his photography skills and spending time with his pet cats whom he rescued; Greg had a love for all animals.

Greg is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Ginny; sister, Lonna Davis; and many nieces and nephews. Ginny & Greg have found great support and friendship from Beverly & Paul Yakel, Denise & Ray Stuart, and Jeremy Heinerich. He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Dorothy and brother, John Wayne Heinerich.
