Harry's Obituary
Harry Russell Smith, 87, of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at his home in Benton Harbor. He was born September 4, 1935 in New Castle, IN to Horace and Elise (Bryant) Smith.
Harry was a proud veteran, serving four years with the Navy. He worked for many years at a photographer for the Herald Palladium before going to work for Whirlpool until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 105, and the VFW 1137. But Harry will best be remembered as a storyteller, prankster, jokester, magician, fisherman, and photographer. There was no better friend than Harry and he will truly be missed.
Harry is survived by his wife, Shelby (Birchfield) Smith; his children, Diana (Stanley) Downey, and David (Tina) Smith; his step-children, Kim (Dale) Dansfield, Ben (Megan) Cox, and Bryan (Marcy) Cox; his grandchildren, Brian Sheridan and Bradley (Diana) Sheridan; several great grandchildren; his siblings, Erline (the late Jack) Wilson, Lena (William) Bales, Jack (Beverly) Smith, Edward Smith and Kelly Smith; and his brother-in-law, Gary Birchfield.
He is preceded in death by his former wives, Anita (Miller) Smith and Norma (Moore) Fairbanks; his brother, William (Donna) Smith; and his parents.
Services for Harry will be private.
