Hazel's Obituary

Hazel 'Chris" McKie, an avid baker, bird-watcher, and life-long resident of South West MI passed peacefully in her home on September 25th, 2023 at the age of 82 surrounded by family.

Hazel is survived by her children John (Linda) Mckie, Otis 'Bub' (Julie) Mckie Jr., Rhonda McCrary, Lisa (Glenn) Hoadley, along with 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents John & Beatrice Martin, Ron McKie (son), Zachary Snow (grandson), Hudson John David Smith (great-grandson), Carl McCrary (son-in-law), 5 sisters, and her husband of 58 years, Otis 'Otie' McKie- whom she will be laid to rest beside.

Hazel was born on Christmas Eve of 1940. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She took great pride in being a devoted Christian - reading her bible every day. Hazel could be found listening to country music while tending to her beloved plants and flowers. Above all Hazel was a care giver to many. Being a foster parent for 6 years, caring for over 30 children in that time along with 5 of her own - she won Mother of the Year in 1987.

A visitation will be held for Hazel on Thursday, September 28th, 2023 from 5pm-7pm at Filbrandt Chapel (1076 South Bailey Ave, South Haven, MI). Visitation will resume 10am on Friday, September 29th, 2023 from 10am until Funeral Service at 11am at Filbrandt Chapel with Pastor Gibson will officiating. Hazel will be laid to rest at Fish Cemetery in Covert, Michigan.
