Ira “Richard” Heimel, Jr., 96, of St. Joseph, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 10, 2022. He was born December 18, 1925 in Benton Harbor, MI to Ira Sr. and Isora (King) Heimel.

The family will receive guests from 1pm until time of celebration of life at 2pm, Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Oakridge Community Church, 766 Oakridge Rd., St. Joseph. Richard was a proud WWII Navy veteran, stationed primarily in the Philippines. He was also a very active member of Oakridge Community Church for many years. Richard was an avid contributor to his church, charities & veterans. You could often find him driving his Dodge Ram listening to his extensive collection of Christian music, which he enjoyed doing up until the very end of his life. He spent many days fishing with his son out on the lake catching perch. Richard’s family knows his love started at the top with God, his truck, his cat, Fluffy, his family, friends and of course Haagen-Dazs ice cream!

Richard worked as a salesman for Western & Southern Life Insurance. Over his 30-year career, he was awarded numerous plaques & trophies for his excellent salesmanship.

Richard will be missed by his children, Darrell (Diane) Heimel, and Iris (Dennis) Siegert; his step-children, Kimberly (Brian) Thomas and Joshua (Cori) Hatheway; 12 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
