Jack's Obituary

Jack A. Tallman, 92, of Niles, MI, passed away on Sat. March 21, 2026. Arrangements have been entrusted to Swem Chapel – 301 West Front St., Buchanan, MI.

As a youth, Jack developed a passion for music, playing the trumpet and performing with the Professor Joseph Casasanta Band. He continued to play throughout his years in the South Bend Central High School band and carried that love of music with him for the rest of his life.

Jack also had a deep interest in raising standardbred horses, many of which raced at tracks across Illinois. Professionally, he dedicated many years to Bendix Corporation as an engineer, where his talent and ingenuity led to several patented designs. After retiring, he and his wife, Nancy, moved to Florida, later returning to Niles 12 years ago to be closer to family.

A skilled and hands-on individual, he built three homes over the course of his life. In his free time he enjoyed golfing, fishing and cheering on the New York Yankees.

Jack proudly served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, working as an airplane mechanic. His service was recognized with several medals and ribbons.

Jack is survived by his wife of 72 years – Nancy (Matthews) Tallman; children – Sheryl (James) Miller and David (Kim) Tallman; grandchildren – Kenneth Tallman, Jeff (Melissa) Miller, Jayme (Anthony) Holt, Chrissy (Aaron) Bradford and Carri (Alan) Perry; 10 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; and daughter-in-law Leita Tallman. He is preceded in death by his parents – Everett and Emma (Feser) Tallman; a son Daniel Tallman; and siblings – Norma Mielke and Lillian (Jack) Holcomb.
