Jack's Obituary
Jackson “Jack” H. Anderson, age 90, of Marshall, Michigan passed away at the University of Michigan Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, Michigan, on April 24, 2026. Jack was born on September 30, 1935, in Camden, Michigan to Leroy and Ethelyn (Dickinson) Anderson.
Jack was a husband, father, grandfather, educator, lifelong conservationist and a man deeply rooted in the land. He grew up on his family’s Centennial Farm outside Camden Michigan. From an early age, he developed a profound connection to the out-of-doors and the rhythms of farm life. He began his education in a one-room school and spent his formative years learning the values of hard work and responsibility - milking cows, driving draft horses and raising crops and livestock. During his years at Reading High School, Jack was active in FFA and 4-H and earned multiple varsity letters in football and track. He graduated from Reading High School in 1953 and then attended the Michigan State College of Agricultural and Applied Science (now MSU). In 1958, he earned his Bachelors of Science in Agricultural and Applied Sciences along with a teaching certificate in secondary education. He later earned a Masters of Science degree from MSU in 1961.
In 1959, he continued his career as an educator and started teaching at Marshall High School. He taught vocational agriculture and agricultural mechanics shaping the lives of countless students with his knowledge, patience and passion for the field. His dedication to agricultural education extended beyond the classroom as he taught courses through MSU’s extension service and at Western Michigan University. Jack also was a respected consultant in the field of agriculture and mechanics.
He married Sharlene Spaulding on August 28, 1954, in Reading, Michigan. She passed away in July 2025. Together they shared 70 years of marriage. Jack and Sharlene loved to travel. They embraced opportunities to explore the West Coast, Alaska, Hawaii and Africa. They were members of the Marshall United Methodist Church for over 60 years. They also loved to spend time at their cottage on Long Lake near Reading. In addition, Jack liked working around his home and caring for his draft horses. At his farm near Reading he raised pheasants and coordinated hunts.
Jack is survived by his daughter Lynnel (Randy) Filbrandt of Norton Shores, Michigan; son David Anderson of Camden, Michigan; and three grandchildren Kevin Filbrandt, Kirsten (Evan) Gray and ShyAnn Craven. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Robert, Laurel, Harold and Warren.
