Jacki's Obituary
Jacquelynn Marie “Jacki” Gist, 49, of St. Joseph, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at home after a long illness.
Jacki was born on April 15, 1975, in St. Joseph. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, class of 1993. Professionally, Jacki dedicated many years in the restaurant industry, operating in catering and for Silver Harbor. She most enjoyed her time at Lakeshore High School, working in the kitchen/cafeteria. Most notably during the pandemic when she helped provide thousands of free lunches.
Jacki enjoyed cooking, finding new recipes, and was very involved in family functions. She would often host and go the extra mile to make each family event special. Her love for animals was evident in her care of several rescue dogs, who were considered beloved members of her family. Jacki also enjoyed crafting, especially with her daughter, Tori. She was a strong supporter of Tori’s pursuits and was considered a second mother by Tori’s friends, playing an active and caring role in their lives as well.
Jacki is survived by her daughter, Tori (Brock Wolf) Whitford of St. Joseph; mother, Suzie (Robert Tagatz) Ashley; father, Christopher Ashley; brother, Jason (Rebecca) Yeske; and nieces, Isabella and Molly Yeske. She was preceded in death by her beloved dog, Maggie.
A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions in Jacki’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, St. Joseph. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
