Jim's Obituary

James L. “Jim” Faulkner, 68, of Buchanan, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 22, 2024, at home.

Jim was born on June 12, 1955, in Hammond, Indiana. He graduated from Merrillville High School, class of 1973. Jim then began his career as a millwright, joining the United Steelworkers Local 1010, Hammond. He served 43 years between Local 1010 and Local 9231, New Carlisle, as a skilled millwright. Jim retired in 2017 from I/N Tek in New Carlisle. On April 19, 1986, he married the love of his life, Lisa Minick in Hobart, Indiana.

A supporter of Notre Dame Sports and a basketball enthusiast, Jim also found joy in outdoor activities, particularly being at his pool or mowing the lawn. He was an avid golfer and participated in several golf leagues in Buchanan, Niles and South Bend. A longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Buchanan, Jim was known for his selflessness, always caring for others. He cherished socializing with his many friends and, above all, valued time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. As a proud father, he consistently supported his daughters in their pursuits, never missing an event. His happiness multiplied as a papa, and he never passed up an opportunity to be with his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lisa Faulkner; daughters, Paige Faulkner and Hillary (Chris) Casey; granddaughter, Brynn Casey; grandson, Declan Casey; mother-in-law, Marianne Minick; brothers, Vito (Catherine) DeJoy and David Rolan; sisters-in-law, Mitzi (Jack) Tipold, Heidi (Chris) Radford; brother-in-law, Kurt Minick; nieces & nephews, Jennifer (David) Spear, Amanda Julian, Christina DeJoy, Michael Radford, Spencer Tipold, Griffin Tipold and many great-nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rosetta “Cookie” Faulkner; mother, Patricia Borski and father-in-law, Robert Minick.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 1:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 212 W. Front St., Buchanan. Visitation will be held two hours prior, from 11 am-1pm also at the church. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Bill Weaver Memorial Scholarship.
