James Flavil's Obituary

James Flavil Montgomery passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024 at home in South Haven, Michigan, surrounded by his family.

James was born the son of Othy Flavil Montgomery and Helen Julia Trinkle Montgomery 10 August 1939 in Chelsea, Michigan in his Grandmaws bed room. With his mama being from Michigan and Daddy from Arkansas he had lived the big part of his young life traveling between Michigan and Arkansas as what he called himself a Half Hill Billy Migrant, picking fruit in Michigan and cotton in Arkansas. In the fall of 1953, the family landed and stayed in Grand Junction, Michigan.

Jim retired a Captain from the Michigan Army National Guard and very proud to have served in the military. He was a life member of the VFW Post 667, Life Member of the American Legion Post 49 and the Moose Lodge 697. On 19 August 1960 he married the Gal Judith Ann Shuck In the town of Bloomingdale, Michigan it turned out to be the best move he ever made. They moved to South Haven where their home remained the rest of his life.

To this union was born 5 boys Eric Martin, James Flavil II and wife April of California, Keri Michael and wife Joyce of South Haven, Randy Lee, Clifford Stacy and wife Michelle of South Haven, one girl Kelly Rae Morrow and husband Bruce of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Jim is also survived by 3 brothers William and wife Jannett of Bloomingdale, Michigan, Robert of New Orleans, Louisiana, Paul of Grand Junction, Michigan. 4 sisters Ednaearl Ann Eifler of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, Alta Kay and husband Stanley Shier of Otsego, Michigan, Linda Jean Elston of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, Julie and husband Paul Gibson of Grand Junction, Michigan.
2 granddaughters Kaitlyn Rae Moses and Savannah Lyn Montgomery. 5 grandsons Cody Lee and wife Taylor, Ian Matthew and Ryan Michael Montgomery. Michael Norman III and Mark Nathanial Carvalho. 1 great granddaughter Lily Jean Montgomery.

Jim was preceded in death by 2 sons Eric Martin and Randy Lee, his parents and one sister Freida May.

Jim many times said he was a really lucky and proud old man to have a family that is the greatest in the world.

Visitation will be at Filbrandt Chapel in South Haven, Michigan on February 6, 2024 at 11:30am until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:30pm. Interment in Arlington Cemetery Bangor, Michigan following the services at Filbrandt Chapel. Those wishing to sign Jame's Guest Book online may do so at www.starksfamilyfh.com. In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made out to Edward W. Thompson American Legion Post 49 - South Haven or Wings of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care - Allegan.
