James's Obituary
James Pedersen Keag, 71, of Fennville, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on April 8,1953 in Holland, Michigan to the late Chester Keag and Gladys (Pedersen) Keag. He graduated Fennville High School in 1971. James married Kim (Beaty) Keag on July 29, 1978.
James learned the family HVAC business at a young age from his father, Chet, who was proudly the first to install an air conditioner in the Fennville area. A natural problem solver, James lived by the philosophy, “We don’t find problems, we find solutions.” His peers often said he was ahead of his time, always bringing innovation and creativity to his work. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do—he had a vision for things and the ability to turn them into reality.
James was a true history buff and movie fanatic, he had endless curiosity for the past and for the present. A passionate collector, drawn to antiques, tools, and the thrill of searching for hidden gems. His creativity played a vital role in the building of DollyBrook Resort, where he found joy in welcoming guests and making lasting connections for the 13 years the family owned it.
Above all else, James loved his family and always tried to do what was best for them. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved. Whether it was supporting his children’s and grandchildren’s passions, offering guidance, or simply just being there, he made sure they always knew they were loved. No matter the time of day or night, you could always call him—whether you needed a ride, a helping hand, or just someone to listen, he was always there. He had a love for animals and shared a special bond with his cat, Tracy. He was also a dedicated supporter at sporting events, known for his unmistakable voice in the crowd and affectionately called “Papa Keag.”
He was an incredibly smart, charming, and funny man who loved sharing conversations and stories. His presence, laughter, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
James is survived by his loving wife Kim Keag and sister, Connie (Bill) James. He was a devoted father to his son, Nathan Keag, and his daughters, Ashley (Jeff) Gilbert, Nichole (AJ) Keag, and Alexandria (Mark) Keag. James was also a proud grandfather to Jack (Niki) Gilbert, Brayden Gilbert, Summer Gilbert, Shay VanWieren, Emilia Gilbert, and Charleigh Gilbert, all of whom he cherished deeply.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James’s name may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice in Allegan or Wishbone Pet Rescue in Douglas.
