Jim's Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James David Patzkowsky, who departed this life on February 10, 2025, at the age of 88. James was born on January 6, 1937 to Edwin and Evelyn (Mosher) Patzkowsky. James was a cherished husband, father and friend whose warmth, humor, and generosity touched countless lives.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Swem Chapel & Cremation Services. A celebration time of gathering will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 2PM until 5PM, with Military Honors being presented at 2:30PM at Amvets Post 1978, 1117 East Bertrand Rd., Niles, MI 49120. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.swemchapel.com.

James proudly served in the United States Air Force as a mechanic and was a Korean War Veteran. His stories of travel and adventures were often shared, always with a twinkle in his eye and a hearty laugh. This experience was an inspiration for owning B&J Auto in Niles, MI to continue the joy of tinkering with cars and interacting with customers.

A natural-born comedian, James had a gift for making people smile. His sense of humor was legendary, brightening the darkest of days and bringing joy to everyone around him. His jokes, quick wit, and infectious laughter will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Helping others was second nature to James. Whether lending a hand to a neighbor or offering sage advice, his generous spirit and compassion were evident in everything he did. He found great fulfillment in knowing he could make a difference in someone's life, no matter how big or small.

James relished in the thrill of the deal. He had countless stories of his “hauls” from local garage sales, Branson, etc. and was always proud to show off his newest gadget. He particularly enjoyed acquiring and adding to his wooden toy collection.

James is survived by his loving family, including his spouse Charlene of 65 years; children Darrel (Gail) Patzkowsky, Dale (Robin) Patzkowsky, Darlene Coulter, Diane (Joe, deceased) Baker; grandchildren Tonya (Matthew) Geesman, Jennifer (Daniel) Surles, Erin (Jesse) Olson, Kristina (Montgomery) Flora, Joseph Baker; great-grandchildren Marlo, Eliana, Ruby, Noah, Luke; half- brothers Tony (Sue) and Tim (Ann, deceased) Patzkowsky, who will forever cherish the memories they created together. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Nancy (Chuck) Cook, and brothers Dick (Iris) and Ray (Mary) Patzkowsky. James leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In celebrating James’ life, let us remember the joy he brought to our hearts and the many ways he made the world a better place. Rest in peace, dear James. Your memory will live on in the stories we share, the laughter we hear, and the kindness we extend to one another.
